About Cow Pregnancy Calculator

Hi, I’m Daisy

I wear tag number 283 because that is how many days an average cow is pregnant. This site exists to answer one question well: when will she calve?

CowPregnancyCalculator.com is a set of cow gestation and calving date calculators for ranchers, dairy farmers, 4-H and FFA families and anyone with a cow in calf. It exists because most calving calculators add 283 days and stop there. Ours adjusts for breed and sire, shows the normal calving window, lays out a day-by-day pregnancy plan, plans whole calving seasons and keeps a herd calving list.

How the calculator works

  • Gestation length starts from the breed average you choose (283 days if you don’t pick one).
  • It is then adjusted for the sire’s Gestation Length EPD if you enter one, the calf’s sex (bull +1 day, heifer −1 day), twins (−8 days) and first-calf heifers (−1 day). If you enter your own herd’s gestation length, that is used instead.
  • The calving window is the due date ±10 days, the range in which most normal calvings fall.
  • Timeline events are counted from the breeding day (heat checks, pregnancy tests) or back from the due date (dry-off, pre-calving vaccines, close-up period).
  • Breed back by is the due date + (365 − gestation length), the latest breeding that keeps a 365-day calving interval.
  • All dates are worked out in whole calendar days, so month lengths and leap years are handled correctly.

Gestation lengths and management guidelines come from university extension services, breed associations and peer-reviewed research, including:

Breed averages are typical figures; your own herd records are always the best guide. This site gives general information and is not veterinary advice.
